monochrome

10/4/2018

by Lynn

the world we all live in

has been painted in black and white
where even shades of gray mean nothing
where every chair
lamp
ribbon
even every small thread
is either
black
or white
the world we all live in
has been painted in black and white
where even shades of gray mean nothing
where every chair
lamp
ribbon
even every small thread
is either
black
or white

and we all see the gray
we all know our world
is far from just a dichotomy

but those who acknowledge the gray
are the same ones who have been
mutilated
over and over
the same ones who have wounds all along their skin
the same ones who have scars just the size of bullets
the same ones who claim they’ve changed
that they can no longer see the gray
that it was a lie the whole time
in fear of further torture

but i see the world in a plethora of color
i see the reds and the violets
and everything in between
i see the gentle browns of freckles upon cheeks
the array of pinks filling in soft lips
the caramel hair strands on her
and the chocolate stubble on him
i see the world in a full rainbow of color
and how beautiful every person can be

but i know better than to share this world
i know that if we can’t even accept the gray
i would be destroyed
if my color disrupted the monochrome
